I’ve been waiting for this moment since I was 12 years old in 1994 and watched the results with my parents and saw Democrat after Democrat go down and wondered “Why are they losing?” This is the first time in my political life that my side has won.
“As when death smites the swollen brooding thing that inhabits their crawling hill and holds them all in sway, ants will wander witless and purposeless and then feebly die, so the creatures of Sauron, orc or troll or beast spell-enslaved, ran hither and thither mindless; and some slew themselves, or cast themselves in pits, or fled wailing back to hide in holes and dark lightless places far from hope.”

The losers will cry, because that is what happens when you are personally rejected by so many people.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The vote was against Bush and not for the Dems. The independents will turn on the Dems in a heartbeat unless they develop some palatable core principles. I hope I’m wrong but I very much anticipate another Republican president in ‘08 and look for them to at least begin reversing yesterday’s congressional losses.

First thanks for commenting!

Time for my anecdotal story. I was sent to a private protestant Christian school from K-8. In 1st grade when I was 5 years old, we had a mock election between Dukakis and Bush the Elder. I was the only vote for Dukakis and everyone knew it was me. At the end of the day as we were leaving, one of the girls in my class came up to me and asked me, “How can you be a Christian and vote Democrat?
The moment was burned into my memories. I was consistently the only Democrat in my class for my entire time during that school. All the other kids and I mean ALL of them would think nothing of engaging in regular Clinton-bashing or Democratic-bashing and delighted in pointing out Democrats were immoral or sleazy or whatever.
So while I didn’t think about politics much until I started getting into my middle teens my childhood was sprinkled with it, and it was usually against my side by my peers.
Much shorter: It’s hyperbole. I’ve actually only been waiting since 1998.

I intend to enjoy it. But let me ask you this, how do you think minority parties become majority parties? It’s because the majority party screws something up bad enough that they get tossed out in favor of the minority.
I think the core principles are pretty easy to spot here though, or at least the base has this principle: Make a country where we are free to go as far as out talents really take us with minimal interference from government. Actual conservatives and not the authoritarian cultists actually want the same things and we definitely have good faith disagreements about how to achieve them, but the goal is the same. Of course public funding of elections and voter-approved paper trails would go a long way to fixing things.

Oh 1 more thing. You know who has that discussion? People. Not elites. Screw the elites.

Speak on, brother, speak on!
That’s an interesting memory, of how you can vote Dem and be a Christian…I’m not sure if Jesus (and I do not speak for Him and don’t ever want to) would approve of torture, screwing over the lower classes and minorities, and didn’t He and his Apostles share everything? I know the whole “render unto Caeser” thing, but isn’t Caeser freakin rich enough and have enough tax cuts and breaks?
But anyway, I ramble.
I hope you enjoy this time my friend!
Any thoughts yet on Obama or Hillary in 08?

Oh, that is an interesting, if slightly depressing, incite into your school-days. While I’m not greatly versed in US politics I understand these recent events to be good news!
